Mardi Himal Trek Cost 2026: A Real Budget Breakdown (USD & RM)

Why Mardi Himal is the cheapest of the three

The single biggest fact about Mardi Himal’s budget is how short it is. This is a four-to-six-day walk — the sourced route runs about 41 km point-to-point, from Kande up the ridge to the Upper Viewpoint (~4,200 m) and down to Sidhing. Annapurna Base Camp is six walking days; the Annapurna Circuit is about fourteen. Your daily teahouse rate is similar on all three, but on Mardi Himal it accumulates over the fewest days, and the trip is run on a short drive from Pokhara rather than a long transfer in. That is why the totals below come in below our ABC cost breakdown and well below a full Annapurna Circuit.

The daily on-trail budget

For most independent trekkers in 2026, USD 25–40 per day covers a bed, three meals, and small extras. The one thing that pushes it up is altitude: the higher camps — Low Camp, High Camp, the ridge — are supplied on foot, so a plate that is cheap at Australian Camp costs more near the viewpoint.

Money-saver: dal bhat (USD 4–7) comes with unlimited refills — the best value and best fuel on the trail. Rooms are often cheap, or near-free, if you eat dinner and breakfast at the same lodge, which is the normal teahouse deal on this route.

The permit

The ACAP is the one certain, fixed cost of the whole trek — buy it in Pokhara or Kathmandu. Budget the TIMS as a maybe. There is no separate national-park fee for Mardi Himal beyond the ACAP. Transfers

Mardi Himal is run from Pokhara, and the roadhead at Kande is only a short drive away, so the transfer bill is the smallest of any trek we cover. Many trekkers walk out via Sidhing and drive back to Pokhara from there.

Because Kande is so close to Pokhara, the drive in is cheap even in a private taxi split two or three ways — this is not a trek where transfers eat the budget.

Guide and porter

Whether you need a guide on the Annapurna trails in 2026 is genuinely contested — the Mardi Himal trail is well-marked and widely walked independently, but a 2023 regulation is on the books and enforcement is inconsistent. Here is what one costs if you take, or are required to take, one:

Over a four-to-six-day walk, a guide adds roughly USD 100–210 plus tips; a porter-guide combo roughly USD 80–150. Because the trek is short, hiring support costs much less here than on ABC or the Circuit. If you hire, do it through a licensed agency so the guide is properly licensed and the porter is insured and equipped.

What it actually adds up to

Realistic ranges for the Mardi Himal trek, excluding international flights to Nepal. These are sourced estimates, not our receipts — we say so plainly.

Guided package prices vary widely with group size, inclusions and season — a solo private guided trip sits at the top, a larger group toward the bottom. Prices across the board rise in the October–November and March–April peak.

Costs people forget

• Cash is king. Reliable ATMs are in Pokhara — carry enough Nepali rupees for the whole trek, as ridge lodges don’t take cards. On a short trek this is easy to underestimate in the other direction: bring a little more than the daily rates suggest, for the cold-morning hot drinks.
• Altitude tax. Food, charging and bottled water all climb in price toward High Camp and the viewpoint. Bring a filter or purification tablets and refill instead of buying bottled — cheaper and less plastic.
• Travel insurance with helicopter-evacuation cover is essential, not optional, at ~4,200 m — budget it separately even on a short trek.
• Warm kit for one cold morning. The trek is mild low down but the pre-dawn viewpoint push is genuinely cold; renting or buying a warm layer, hat and gloves in Pokhara is a small line item worth planning for.
• Gear you don’t already own, the Nepal visa (USD 30–50 depending on length), and Pokhara nights before and after the walk.
