Bukit Dinding
The urban rep hill — +979 m of climbing packed into a 10 km lap session in Wangsa Maju, GPS-measured. Vertical volume close to the city, not a summit day.
Measured first-hand by Kei on a COROS watch, 29 August 2026 · Wangsa Maju, KL.
Bukit Dinding, in Wangsa Maju, is the KL training hill you do on repeat — a short, steep climb close enough to the city to hit before or after work. On this session we stacked a measured +979 m of ascent into just over 10 km by looping the roughly 220 m rise four or five times. The numbers below are all measured.
The Measured Journey
Every metre from a measured GPS track. Dated 29 August 2026.
Vertical volume, on repeat
Dinding is the opposite of Nuang. There’s no big sustained descent — the longest single drop is only 202 m — because the day is reps: +979 m of climbing, roughly four to five laps of the ~220 m hill, at the highest average heart rate of any of our trails (140 bpm). It builds the raw uphill volume and the leg conditioning the big climbs demand, and because it’s in the city you can do it consistently — the accessible, repeatable end of the block.
See how it sits against the long day hikes on the measured training journey — where our data makes the point that lap hills build day-totals, not the single sustained descent the pass demands.
What to expect
- Reps, not a summit. You loop the hill rather than top out once — this session was roughly four to five laps of a ~220 m climb for +979 m total.
- Short and steep. At ~97 m of climb per kilometre — second only to Pulai — it’s relentless, sustained climbing, hence the 140 bpm average, the highest of the set.
- Close to the city. In Wangsa Maju, it’s the accessible hill you can train on regularly, not a full expedition day.
- Vertical, not descent. Great for building uphill legs and volume; for sustained downhill conditioning, the long day hikes (Nuang) do that job.
